Bernie Jessome

Fan Club

Bernie & Darlene

Welcome ...from the President

If this is your first visit, I would hope you would take time to read through a few of our first year letters and check out our Fans Comments.  You could even leave a comment of your own, telling us how you enjoyed visiting or how you know Bernie.

At this time I would like to share with you how I came to be the President of Bernie’s fan Club.

I had at one time offered to do phone work for a friend.  A few years later this same friend called to inform me that she had just sent a friend of hers to see me and that he needed someone to do some research.

A little while later the door bell rang; the person at the door said…Phyllis has sent me to see you.  I knew that voice!  Roy Orbison?  No Bernie Jessome!  I had both heard and seen Bernie performing his Roy Orbison Legend Show while wearing the dark glasses but never without them.

Like you, I enjoy his voice whether it is his own or while he is performing during one of his legends shows.   After Bernie explained what he wanted to do, I felt it came from his heart and I knew then that this would be something I would like to be part of.

There have been many different “Departments” over the last few years as I will call them.  After a while Bernie’s fan base had grown and he has now entrusted me with the beginning of his Fan Club.

I am one of his devoted fans to start with and have been assisting him for a few years, attending his shows and seeing the crowd’s response; Then if that isn’t enough, while I am looking at the picture of Sam Orbison [Roy’s Brother] and Bernie, reading Sam’s comments & praises about Bernie my thoughts are turning to the facts that are already in front of me, so how difficult could this be to talk about Bernie & his shows…

During the early part of 1994 Sam Orbison was asked to help develop a musical presentation of his brother's career. The show was to have its basis in a narrative accounting of Roy Orbison's life from his birth in West Texas to his death in 1988. Throughout the commentary, which is delivered live and in person by Sam Orbison, the music of Roy Orbison is sung by one of North America 's premier Orbison impersonators, Bernie Jessome, and is supported by a fully live backup band. Bernie's work with The Legends of Rock and Roll in Canada, and with American Superstars throughout the United States, brought him to the attention of Sam Orbison.  It was Bernie Jessome's selection to portray Roy Orbison that actually assured Sam's position as one of the show's producers.

To put the icing on the cake this is the actual wording from Sam’s newspaper article from Tunica, Mississippi …“Bernie does it for the pure love of it [Roy Music] and we get along so well together it is just wonderful for me.  He and I are together all the time and it gives me goose bumps to hear Bernie sing.  He does it better than any impersonator out there”.

This, our second year, has not only been very busy, but, also a very successful year for Bernie.

Bernie along with the Hilltop Restaurant & Banquet Hall began a Dinner Theatre Show. Bernie not only performs, but  once a month there is a presentation of Bernie Jessome Entertainment Productions. Each show has had fantastic revues!

Phil provides the great food, the attractive dinning room, pleasant and courteous servers, all which sets the stage for a great evening out with Bernie’s great shows.  As you are standing during the standing ovation, for the show you have just seen, your thought will turn to… Let’s do this again

Thanks for visiting,

Darlene Lewis

Lori, Peterborough ON

I love Bernie Jessome….I first met him when I was born, as he is married to my Aunt Nancy.

Mary, Pictou

I first met Bernie back in 57 or 58. He and his parents had moved to St. Peters for a while. I had heard the name from some of the Stone’s in Lynch River whom he was related to. When I finally met Bernie it was through a friend of mine who had a crush on him. In those days Bernie was known for his good looks, singing, and his car, as not many at the age of seventeen had their own care in those days. As time went on Bernie and my brother, Joe, became friends and started doing some jamming together, sometimes at our house. Eventually it was discovered that Bernie would be a relative. Bernie had a nick name, in those days, it was “Bing”. I suppose because of the singing…

A few years back I went to the “Roy Orbison” concert in Pictou at the De Coste with my friend Bev, who went out with Bernie years ago, and we were really surprised to see it was “our” Bernie We thoroughly enjoyed the show, had the opportunity to speak with Bernie a little afterwards but there is never enough time to sit down and “catch up” and find out more about him. Bernie has done shows at the Michelin Social Club. We also saw Bernie at the ‘Stone Mountain Festival’ with his lovely daughter Lori. That was, actually, the last time we saw Bernie.

We are very pleased that Bernie is doing so well and now, with his fan club, we all can read what he has been doing.

I took up the fiddle in my mid fifties, play by ear and pick it up very easily and consider it a gift from God and am very thankful for it. I now play in three groups, lead one of them and absolutely love it. We play art concerts, homes for the elderly, coffee parties, benefits and house parties. I tried the guitar once with my brother doing the teaching but it broke my long fingernails and therefore I was not interested in that. Later found I was more interested in note than chords!

Bernie are you ever coming back to DeCoste in Pictou?”

Becky, Neosho, WI

I met Bernie in 2005 at the Menominee Casino in Keshena WI.

I just loved the Roy Orbison Show.  Not only is Bernie a great entertainer but also a very nice person and loved by so many…

I wish he would come back to Keshena.

From a great friend,

Becky

Joyce from New York

I am Bernie’s cousin from the States. My name is Joyce but Bernie calls me “JOYCIE BEAR”.

This is the story; Bernie’s mother and Father, my mother was his sister from LIL ‘Brador, Nova Scotia. When his parents came to visit on many week-ends at our house Bernie would bring his guitar and “Goof Off!” and strum away all week-end singing. We would sit on the front porch and he would sing and the whole neighbourhood would be out listening to him. He liked to imitate “Elvis”. He would sing a song by Elvis [Teddy Bear], thus I got the name “Joycie Bear” [Won’t you be my Joycie Bear]

Bernie was a loving KID and now he’s loved by “All who know him” He’s ‘MY FAVORITE PERSON’”

Love Yah!!

I met Bernie over 40 years ago in Ottawa.  My friends played in his band "Bernie Jessome and the Hawks", Ricky Cote on drums and Mike Begin on bass.  I followed them around for a while.  Bernie even had me up on stage to sing a few songs a couple of times.  I was playing bass back then and still am.  I would like to see Bernie again if he comes close to Moncton.
Gordon -  Hamilton ON

After seeing Bernie at the Aquarius Centre in Hamilton ON I always wanted a t-shirt from him, never did get one.

I was on the yahoo search engine when I came across the Legends of Rock "n" Roll it was there that I learned the correct spelling of his last name and now here I am.

Bernie is a terrific impersonator, a great show it was.  Hope he comes back to Hamilton ON soon.

Lisa -  Trenton  ON

Nancy is my god-mother and this is how I know Bernie:

The first performance my husband and I saw Bernie live at was the show Legends of Rock and Roll in Worthing England.  We were living there at the time and saw the performance and then took Bernie to our local pub afterwards.

We are now living in the area and will attend Bernie's Dinner Shows at the Hilltop.

"I first became aware of Bernie Jessome in 1986...while putting CKOC's FM station (CKLH-FM ...now called K-LITE FM) on the air.  One of the early singles we played for some time was from Bernie.  I believe it was OVER THE RAINBOW.   I met Bernie after seeing his great work as ROY ORBISON.   On several occasions he came out to support charity cruise/concert endeavors we did at CKOC.
I was pleased to work with Bernie and Jeff Scott  ... developing a production called "TRIBUTE-THE EVERLY BROTHERS" that played at STAGE WEST.  I've worked with Bernie several times.  He is a real talent ... and a successful promoter.   Hard to believe he's becoming a senior citizen!!!!!"

I was incredibly privileged to meet both Bernie, and Sam Orbison, about eight years ago, when they did the Roy Orbison Story in Sarnia. I was even more fortunate to get to know Bernie even better, as a friend, while playing a part in several legends shows that he performed in.

It's been several years since we've seen each other, but I've always kept my eyes on what he's accomplished over this time.

Bernie, I'm so thrilled for your success, and I wish you many, many more years of the same.

 Stay well, and God Bless!

Bernie's reply to Paula's comment. Paula has an amazing harmonizing voice we sang beautifully together.

Holly ,  Halifax  NS

I have been to the Roy Orbison Story three times in Halifax and hope that Bernie

comes back this way real soon.

Phyllis, Oshawa ON

We were thrilled at the niceness of Bernie, such a gentlemen and when we saw his promo we were "sold" on hiring him for our shows. His resemblance to Roy Orbison, when in costume is uncanny...I have always said that Bernie is a very handsome Roy Orbison. He sounds exactly like Roy and is a very polished performer. We are very proud to know Bernie and wish him all the BEST ALWAYS. "Break a Leg" in Australia, Bernie!!!!!!!!

Having had Bernie perform for us a few times, he was becoming more famous with exposure and getting more gigs. He asked me if I knew anyone who could help him out. Darlene Lewis, who by the way is a very sweet and dear friend...plus very pretty....came to my mind as she had offered to help me. I called Darlene asking if she would be kind enough to help my friend and she said she would love to.... so I gave Bernie her address, and the rest is history. Darlene has been very instrumental in helping Bernie with his career and I love her for this, as I'm certain that Bernie does too. Kudos to both of you!!!!!!! Much love and admiration for both of you!!!!!!!!!!!

Luv Phyllis

Wellington ON

Our Clubhouse at Wellington on the Lake was a-rocking with wonderful sounds of the Roy Orbison music coming from Bernie and his daughter Lori on Sunday June 7th 06

From the moment that Lori came on the stage, and then Bernie I knew that we had made a wonderful choice of inviting them to our fundraiser. Everyone enjoyed the many songs; however “Pretty Woman” became the hit of the evening.

The standing ovation had Bernie and Lori performing “Pretty Woman” once again; and at that point everyone was either standing, clapping or dancing to the music. It was great to see the smiles on each person’s face

Bernie Scott - Newfoundland

Had the opportunity to listen to a recording of Bernie Jessome performing
some of Roy's classic hits and I have to say that the vocals were astounding.
Never had the opportunity to see him in person yet, but judging from the dress code, and the sound of his voice, he would definitely impress people no matter where he performs."

One of these days I hope to actually see him perform."

I am joining for my Grandad, he was a big fan of Roy Orbison.  Grandad died a couple of days ago.

So this is for my Grandad, love you where ever you are.

Oh to be 18 again.  We are great fans of Bernie's and it brings joy to my heart at every show.  He takes us back to our youth and what a feeling it is. The music rocks and the soul roars.  Its breath taking to hear Bernie impersonate Roy Orbison. He will bring the house down in a heart beat.  You just close your eyes and you hear Roy and it brings back a lot of memories.  For a few hours you take an out of body experience of the good ole rock n roll.

I love the web site and I give Darlene a lot of praise. Keep it coming girlfriend.

Carolee, Wisconsin

I loved Roy Orbison when I was a young adult.  I missed his music.  Seeing Bernie doing his impersonation put me back in time once again with Roy’s special sound.  California Blues is my favorite song, and Bernie does it so well.  That night I fell in love all over again.  This thanks to Bernie’s interaction with the audience.  As the picture shows I have his much treasured autograph on a CD.  That was the night he appeared at the Menomonie Casino in Keshena, Wis.

We also had a chance to talk with Bernie that night as he came to our table.  I enjoyed the fact that he was able to do that, it was special.  That’s the closest I have ever been to a star of such renown in my whole life.  I felt special!
I hope he will come back AGAIN SOME TIME SOON to Wisconsin
Mary Margaret, Nova Scotia

Bernie lived in my home town and he and my brother used to jam, sometimes at our house.  Bernie was about 17 then and having had his own car, sometimes drove us around.  I lost track of him over the years and was surprised to see him perform here in Pictou County, a few years back.  I have been to see his Roy Orbison show three times and looking forward to seeing the Everly Brothers performance.  Would like to know when he is coming back to Pictou County.  Loved the Everlys!
Don, Mississauga ON

I’ve never belonged to a fan club.  By joining the club I hope to learn more about his shows in advance.  I’ve kept watching but with out luck for upcoming shows. The first time I saw Bernie was at Stage West Theater in Mississauga, Ont.  That show was several years ago, Roy’s brother Sam was also there with him.
I am not related to Dayton Don the race car driver, as you had asked, I am a retired senior citizen.
Sharon, Ottawa ON

Bernie and I have known each other since before he was married.  It was actually Bernie that I went to see 40+ years when he was playing in Ottawa.  My friend and I went to see him play.  My husband Jimmy was playing drums for him and from there he asked me out and the rest, as they, say, is history – we’ve been married now 40 years.  So Jimmy and I both know Bernie well.  He is a great friend.  I always like to see him when he is in town!

I enjoy Bernie’s voice, whether he’s Roy Orbison or any of the Legends he does so well, but also, when he is singing as himself especially Conway Twitty songs.  The Legend music takes me back to memories of years gone by, but, at the same time making new ones.
Allison, from Newfoundland
I am a singer, songwriter.  I wrote my first song in 1992.  I started playing guitar at the age of 17.  I took on the keyboards one year ago.  Been part of the music business since I was 3.
Pauline, Oshawa ON

Can not really remember how often I have seen Bernie perform but at least twenty, every time I can.  He is great as Roy and the Everly Bros but also does a great Gene Pitney.  I also like the Conway songs which he also does well.  He himself is someone to enjoy.
Wendy, Whitby  ON

I have been to Bernie’s shows at LVIV Hall and found them very entertaining.
His impersonation of Roy Orbison is the finest I’ve ever heard.  I remember my Mom always playing Elvis, Roy and Conway while I was growing up.  Listening to them again brought back very special memories of the times Mom and I spent together.  Guess who my Mom is? (Darlene)
Gail, Stratford  ON

I played the keyboards for Bernie in the early 80’s and loved backing him up because he was so good and so much fun to work with.
